Companion to How to Describe Complex Ideas to Your AI

The prompts, files, and checks the guide refers to

This companion holds the working material for the guide: the starter prompts as plain text you can edit, the invented Lakeside Cardiology package, and a script that checks it. Everything in the example is fictional, and nothing in it needs a graph database, a hosted AI service, or a vendor’s ontology platform.

Start Here

  1. Open the starter prompts. Copy Starter Prompt 1, replace the bracketed text with your own problem, and paste it into any AI assistant.

  2. Answer its questions. Then use Starter Prompts 2 and 3 in order.

  3. When you want the files created and checked for you, use an agent that can read and write files in a folder, such as Claude Code.

What the example package holds

Part What it is

Specification

A Spec Kit style feature specification for the referral handoff, its quality checklist, and the principles the harness follows.

Ontology

A vocabulary, the Lakeside data (Eidolons, Ergons, and Noemas with relationships, sources, and labels), the shapes that records must meet, and synthetic evidence notes.

Traceability and decisions

Which requirement ties to which actor, workflow, belief, evidence, test, and approval, and the approval record with the option comparison.

Harness

Standing instructions that configure a file-capable agent as the maintenance harness, and a blank form for the build, buy, extend, integrate, change, or wait decision.

Changes

A first draft with four deliberate mistakes, and a worked change with its request, plain-English report, and patch.

Checker

A script that parses every Turtle file, runs the shapes, confirms the failing examples fail, and resolves every traceability link.

Run the checks

You need Python 3.11 or later and a tool that runs a script with its dependencies, such as uv. From the kit folder, run uv run --with rdflib --with pyshacl scripts/validate.py. The script writes nothing. It checks syntax, shape, and links. A person checks whether a statement is true.

What is automated and what a person does

Automated A person

Every Turtle file parses

Decides what is intended

Records meet their shapes, and the failing examples fail

Checks that each fact is true and current

Every requirement, term, evidence file, and decision in the traceability table exists

Approves scope, facts, and decisions

Chooses build, buy, extend, integrate, change, or wait

Tool setup

Spec Kit’s install and command names change between versions. Follow the official quickstart at https://github.github.io/spec-kit/quickstart.html and inspect what your project installed before you copy a command from the guide. On 2026-10-08 the quickstart named the install command as uv tool install specify-cli and the commands with a speckit- prefix, and the tool reported version 1.1.2.
