Recomposition, not replacement

That is a recomposition of the role, not a deletion of it. The person's day changes from performing every task to specifying, supervising, and handling the exceptions, which is a different job with different skills and a different failure mode.

A supervisor of many workers can supervise none of them properly. Attention is the scarce resource once execution is cheap, and a team that automates without reducing the review load has moved the bottleneck rather than removed it.

This is a research question rather than a settled one. How many contracted workers a single credentialed person can genuinely oversee is unknown, and it is the number that determines whether any of this economics works.
