A meeting report from the iCoDE project, which is writing the standard for getting continuous glucose monitor data into the electronic health record. The June 22, 2022 steering committee reviewed progress from six working groups.

Working Group 1 set out a conceptual framework with a definition of CGMs, clinical modes of action, a data type classification, and core and expanded datasets manufacturers should expose. Working Group 2 covered account linkage between patient data and EHR records, cybersecurity standards for manufacturers, and identifiers for linkage. Working Group 3, co-chaired by Shahid N. Shah, recommended a FHIR-first strategy with HL7 v2.x where FHIR does not fit, a pull rather than push approach, and a middleware or staging environment for reconciliation, data quality checks, and high-resolution data rather than doing that work inside the EHR.

Working Group 4 addressed representation and visualization, treating the ambulatory glucose profile and its metrics as the standard elements. Working Group 5 proposed clinical workflows with roles and checklists. Working Group 6 wrote a project guide covering partnership types, financial considerations for health care organizations, and integration timelines.
